Larry Williams studied at the University of Western Ontario and then at Concordia University in Montreal. Working on the glass he has developed a technique where an image is created and then transferred to canvas. The paint is manipulated in various ways scraped and scratched but the final surface is smooth. Flat like a photograph but visually textured offers the viewer a sense of the surface and of the process.

With roots in Newfoundland and in Saskatchewan and a father in the Airforce -moving from place to place was a fundamental part of his life. For the past twenty years, Williams has settled in a rural village of St.Adelme in the Gaspesie of Eastern Quebec. Before that, he spent almost a decade in the Inuit village of Inukjuak on the east coast of Hudson Bay. The landscape is the bedrock of much of his work.

Since the beginning, his work was about landscape and its elements. The notion of being at one with nature is something more profound than a simple sentiment. He creates spaces in which a certain kind of synchronicity can take place. The cyclical nature of biological processes and geological ones give rise to his investigations. These investigations mimic those processes in the form and structure of nature. Sometimes analytical sometimes more whimsical - the work melts representation into abstraction opening up new possibilities.

He has had solo and group shows in various galleries across Ontario and Quebec and New Brunswick. He was represented for a time by Keller and Greene Gallery in Los Angeles. He has been reviewed in Art FocusMagazine and the La Times and the ArtsBusiness Exchange.

He has received Quebec artist grants and is represented in various public and private collections in Canada, the United States, and overseas.
